Zookeeper

JOB DESCRIPTION

Zookeepers are sometimes called animal attendants and may work with animals outside of a zoo setting. Their job is to ensure animals are well looked after. This can include grooming, exercising, treating minor injuries, watching for any negative changes in animal behaviour, cleaning waste and providing food and shelter.

DUTIES AND TASKS

A zookeeper may perform the following duties:

  • under take the care of animals
  • ensure the animals are looked after in a manner appropriate to their species
  • care for the animals habitat
  • observe any changes in animal behaviour.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • enjoy practical  and manual work
  • love animals and show patience to them
  • interested in animal health and welfare
  • good eye for detail
  • able to work in a team
  • able to follow instructions and keep to a routine
