JOB DESCRIPTION
A police officer maintains order, enforces the law, investigates crimes, patrols public areas and arrests suspected offenders, and attends emergencies. They may also undertake community education and implement crime prevention strategies. They write reports and maintain databases on a daily basis.
DUTIES AND TASKS
A police officer may perform the following duties:
- frontline and operational policing
- attending accident or emergency scenes
- investigating crime
- arresting suspects
- dealing with the public
- writing reports and entering data.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
- able to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures
- ability to stay calm in difficult situations including where there is injury, trauma or loss
- able to work autonomously and in a team
- able to follow protocol, rules and instructions
- honest, reliable and responsible
