Animal Catcher

JOB DESCRIPTION

An animal catcher is also referred to as an animal control officer. They may catch or rescue animals or enforce local and regional laws concerning the care and treatment of animals. They may patrol public areas looking for signs of distressed animals, or look for animals that are not being controlled. Some animal catchers may specialise in catching reptiles or other native animals and placing them back in natural habitats.

DUTIES AND TASKS

An animal catcher may perform the following duties:

  • maintain files on animals that have been impounded
  • talk with animal owners who are looking for missing animals
  • interview those witnessed doing wrong or harm to animals
  • arrange shelter for unclaimed animals
  • care for animals in their custody
  • arrange veterinary treatment for animals that need medical attention.

  • enjoy being out and about
  • good communication skills
  • good observation skills
