JOB DESCRIPTION
Musical instrument makers build, repair and restore musical instruments using age-old tools and techniques as well as modern factory methods. Musical instrument making is a craft. There might be opportunities to work for a company, and other opportunities to custom-make instruments for clients on request. Some instrument makers specialise in brass or string instruments for example.
DUTIES AND TASKS
Musical instrument makers or repairers may perform the following tasks:
- take instructions from clients
- draw or sketch plans and specifications
- handle a variety of materials including timber, metal, steel
- make instruments to order
- tune or repair instruments.

- like working with their hands
- have a love of music
- can distinguish between different notes and sounds
- good attention to detail
- enjoy interacting with clients
